Moen School Built by Brent Lorentson, 1907

This is how Moen School looked back in the 1940's, with its wonderful cupola and large bell.  There is no oil tank on the side, which means this picture was taken when the school was still heated with wood.

Proud boys are displaying their birdhouses.  Notice the older boys on the lower left, Kennard Vennes, Ozzie and Allen Bakken.  They took the easy way out and made their birdhouses out of hollow logs.

THE GUNFIGHTERS  Kennard Vennes, Irving Bakken and Ozzie Tollefson starring in The Gunfight at the Moen School Corral.   Our heroes were cowboys we saw on Saturday nights at the movies.   Ozzie liked Roy Rogers and Kennard's favorite was Jesse James.  We learned how to talk tough and say stuff like, "I dare you to draw, varmint!"

RURAL EDUCATION

Miss Olson went by the book.  The duties of the one-room teacher went far beyond teaching the three R's.  She was the nurse, the guidance counselor, the janitor and quite often the Chief of Police.
